Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month in Georgia

While National Hispanic Heritage Month officially started on September 15th, already thousands of Latinx/Hispanics in Georgia have shared their love for their culture, traditions and community in one or more of the many celebrations our member and partner organizations have led in the state. Whereas is art(stop by Plaza Las Americas in Gwinnett and vote for your favorite mural!), Latin American cuisine (we are still debating our favorite dishes from the many Chefs) at Celebrating our Heritage “Saborea Atlanta” from Ser Familia, or folklore (with the beautiful colors and music from dozens of groups showcased at “Festival del Sabor”) by the Coalition of Latino Leaders in Dalton or learning about voting rights and ensuring civic participation in this year’s municipal election (GALEO), our community celebrates and honors our heritage in various and diverse ways

This past week, The Latino Community Fund (LCF Georgia) was named Community Partner by the inaugural Latino Leaders Network Luncheon in Georgia (and the 59th nationwide). On Friday, we were honored with the Community Partner of the Year Award by Ser Familia.
On Sunday, Adelina Nicholls, Executive Director of GLAHR received the Ohtli Award from the Mexican Consulate in an emotional celebration of love and strength.
Jerry Gonzalez has been chosen by La Amistad as a Community Hero and will be honored at their annual gala on September 28th.
