Latinos for Democracy #EstamosAqui

The Hispanic Federation and Latino Community Fund of Georgia have announced the launch of a non-partisan, statewide Latino voter registration and mobilization initiative in Georgia.  The “Latinos for Democracy” Initiative focuses on registering Hispanic eligible voters for the November mid-term elections and encouraging existing Latino voters to participate in this year’s elections.

The coordinated campaign will include door-to-door canvassing, online registration, Phone-banking and a multi-media engagement plan reaching across the entire state with partner organizations such as the Georgia Alliance for Latino Elected Officials (GALEO), the Coalition of Latino Leaders (CLILA) in Dalton and the Hispanic Alliance coordinating local community efforts.

The Georgia Latino community is a critical voting bloc in Georgia.  As one of the fastest growing populations in the state, we want to ensure Hispanics are active in elections and well-represented in the state,” stated Jose Calderon, President of the Hispanic Federation.  Our work this year serves to support the work of the Latino Community Fund and the outstanding organizations championing Latinos across the state.

Gilda Pedraza, Executive Director of the Latino Community Fund of Georgia, added “I am pleased to partner with the Hispanic Federation and our local partners on the “Latinos for Democracy” Initiative.  It illustrates the increasing importance of the Latinos in Georgia and the Southeast region of the U.S.  Our contributions to the social and economic fabric of the state are pivotal and this critical presence must be reflected in electoral participation.”

The number of Latino voters in Georgia has tripled since 2004. There are 291,000 Hispanic eligible voters in Georgia Hispanic voters according to the Pew Hispanic Center. Every 30 seconds, a Latino reaches voting age across the country.
